Barba paused to digest that before responding, thought about how it would feel to see himself as inadequate because of something well beyond his control or choice. "I'm sorry you think so little of yourself, and certainly, after some time we might have you try one class at a time again, to learn more," he murmured, "But I don't see you that way. I don't compare you to every possible iteration of you that could exist--I want you precisely as you are, and I've been training with you, and I see you as strong," he said, trying to make his words reach Toffee completely. "You're a strong, good pet. And you're my precious, irreplaceable darling. I wish you saw yourself just like that."
