"I know. Didn't understand how overwhelming all the classes would be, and I should have tried to say something earlier. Could have handled pet protocol along with Instructor Marnie, just not the classes that were meant to be fun." He leaned against Jamie a bit. "Want to reaffirm him, didn't mean to hurt him before."

Jamie hugged him gently with one arm, and then used the other to wrap around his waist and pat his belly with a little affectionate emphasis. "I know, Toffee. It'll get better with time, hurts and misunderstandings always do. And you'll get better at expressing yourself too." He noted the language getting softer, less perfectly grammatical, and wondered to himself if it was a side-effect of not talking at all for a long time (as he feared Toffee hadn't much when he was stolen) or if it was just a habit he'd picked up from Treacle. Either way, it wasn't upsetting much, just a little different than he was used to.

"I know." He wrapped an arm around Jamie's waist, hugging him back. "I'll do his sweater only in here, when he's not around, and yours and then mine when he might see me working on them." And he needed to take the measurements now, and figure out what size to do.

"I'll need four balls, but that should give me plenty to swatch with."

"That'll be perfect, Hendrick never intrudes, and the only person who'd clean in here if you couldn't is me," Jamie said warmly, and detached from Toffee, letting him start measuring the sweater and fetching the pad of paper on the desk and writing down numbers. "Do you really only need four balls? Not five for contingency? I'm not worried about leftover yarn, I'm positive you'll put it to use eventually." And yarn didn't exactly expire or attract pests--not with the cedar panels put in the room to effectively repel all possible insects.

"Only the biggest size would need five balls, and then only just...although I guess I could get the extra ball and knit myself a loch hat and pair of mittens with what's left." If he didn't need to use up too much yarn swatching and figuring out the lace pattern.

"I just figure it's better than running out of materials mid-project, or right before it's done--that's always unpleasant. Like the time I had to run out at three in the morning for matcha to finish off the surprise cake for Master Erik's surprise cake." Jamie shook his head ruefully at the memory.

"Ah, yes that's especially difficult with yarn, because you can't always get the same dyelot, so it might not match - especially with the smaller companies. It's not really something to worry about with cascade yarns though."

"You're the expert," Jamie acknowledged. He smiled at Toffee making notes, and then pulling out his current project--was that Jamie's vest? "It's nice to see your expertise in motion," he said warmly.

"I'm glad, I don't want to bore you." He told Jamie as he began working on the vest.

Jamie snorted. "Toffee, it is downright impossible to ever bore me. If you start talking about things I'd never heard of before, I'd just try to figure it out, ask questions. If you sit in silence, I'll start a conversation if I want one. The others are much easier to note--that's why I'm the housepet, I suppose. Me and you both." He felt suddenly curious. "Do you always want to be a housepet?"

"Yes, I think so." He agreed softly with a smile. "I was being trained with that in mind before."

Jamie smiled warmly, sweetly at him. "I was picked early for it--a good temperament. And I think you've got a good one, too. Much better at actually completing work, and keeping things running smoothly. It's nice to think that soon we can combine our skills and make things even better in the home. You know how hard the others work--it's the best to make sure they can be safe and warm here. Don't you agree?"

"Oh, yes. It's better if they don't have to worry about whether or not there's going to be food on the table and can come home to a good meal. I heard that it's hard for Matt Murdock sometimes, because he works near enough the same hours as his master."

"It's really hard for pets to deal with being pulled in two directions at once like that," Jamie said thoughtfully, watching the beautiful needles clack softly against each other. It was mesmerizing. "They found it really hard before I came along to help them manage."

"I bet they did." He answered with a chuckle. "Matt, both of them, Murdock and Danny's Matt, are a bit possessive though."

"Mm," Jamie hummed. "It's nice sometimes to be very possessed by our owner--or to play the jealousy game. That can be an awful lot of fun," he said brightly, thinking of firm grips, biting kisses, being held down and used until he screamed.

"As long as it is a game." Toffee nodded, remembering how Treacle and Golubushka had agreed that they wouldn't be able to share.

"Well, it's hardly up to us, isn't it?" Jamie said a little sharply. Toffee had to remember the important facts, or else he'd be heartbroken continuously.

"No, but none of us are too possessive to share in this household. I wanted to be with other pets, feels safer than being an only pet."

Jamie blinked and realized there was no dangerous rebellion at all in what Toffee was saying--just an uncertain innocence. "I'm glad you felt we were a safer bet," he said softly. "You haven't been ours and part of us for long, but I really can't imagine being without you. We would miss you."

"Yeah. You were the ones I hit it off with best."He paused in his knitting and leaned over to hug Jamie again.

Jamie hugged him back, and then they withdrew to sit in comfortable silence for a little while. Then Jamie winced internally, took a deep breath, and plunged into a careful line of questioning-- "Toffee, who did you say your friend Golubushka belonged to, again?"

"Franklin, I'm not sure on his surname though." He answered with a bit of a frown.

Jamie let out a small breath. "You mentioned he was a defense attorney, too, right? Well, we know just about every attorney in New York City between all of us, and we've checked, and no defense attorney here has any pet named that."

"Golubushka isn't his name of record, it's a nickname - he's another Matt." Toffee shrugged. "I only know what I've been told."
