Mike opens Matt’s drawer and pulls out a fresh pair of jeans, some socks, an undershirt and a floral printed collared shirt. This shirt is his favorite of the new additions he had made to Matt’s wardrobe. It’s navy blue with pink petaled flowers with green stems. He had labeled it gray for Matt. He changes quickly, then put his dirty clothes in the hamper, except for the hoodie, which he puts back into his book bag.
He should really talk to Matt. He sighs.
He walks over to the mirror and combs his fingers through his hair. He then puts the sunglasses back on. “Matty really needs a new haircut… What is with this floppy hair? These glasses aren’t really that flattering, either.” He lets himself forego Matt’s usual speaking voice and instead his words come out with a bit of a New York accent, reminiscent of their dad’s.
He smiles at his reflection. “Maybe I’ll go with him to the barber next time.”
Mike retrieves his cane from his book bag and unfolds it. It’s time to face his brother. He’s almost giddy at the thought. They haven’t actually talked for… over six months. Wow. Has it been that long?
