We discussed whether Mike reads Braille and decided that he does. Not only would he use it with Stick, when he was a kid he would pass notes to matt in class using it, and there’s always the possibility that Stick will blind him again, so he feels the need to be prepared..
Definitely reads braille. I bet he had to set some things up for Stick and it would, of course, use braille labeling... That and I bet he views it as a necessary survival skill. Especially as he never knows when or if Stick might force him to drink that stupid tea.
That, and maybe the reason he had access to the labeler is he helped Matt with the grocery shopping... All part of putting away the groceries… LOL
Matt should probably ban him from that job…
Yeah, probably, but one way or another Mikey will be helping him with the groceries again... Besides, Mike is the one who wanted spagetti-o's and ended up with organic canned peas, anyway.. ;) (Yuck. Spagetti-o's... as if Matt would ever eat that??? Duh. If the ingredients sound like they came out of a chemistry set or could be made with possible GMO's Matty's really not interested…)
But Mike bought them, and put them there with a nice healthy label stolen from another can. So he put the spagetti-o label on the other can as a clue. I mean, he's not totally heartless! ;-)
oh yeah, and he'd totally want to be able to pass his brother notes, so of course he made the effort to really learn it - those braille contractions and all.
Like in school, because the other kids couldn't pass notes to Matt, but Mike used to poke out Braille with a sharp pencil, backwards into a sheet of paper. And the best part was that the teacher had no idea what it said if they were caught. Also, Mike became the class translator if one of the other kids needed to get a note to Matt.
Then we get back to now time, where Matt tries to look after his currently blind brother and Mike’s just not into that, and discuss both Murdock boys’ relationship with their two father figures. I’ve left in the stuff about the sky because its interesting even though its not completely relevant to this.
I think the big deal about the sky is to do with his total lack of a circadian rhythm... To exist in a timeless day/night has got to hard. But, Mike should know this, considering... He just doesn't want to go there. I bet Jack had them both study together, held them to the same rules... wanted them to use their heads, not their fists... and, well, Mike dropped out of school, so... I wonder if he has a chip on his shoulder about learning or if he's hungry for it... Maybe a mix of both.. Afterall, he has the same intelligence as Matt, Mr. Summa Cumme Laude... I bet while blind, Mike wants to go out as the Man in the Mask/Daredevil... And, Matt's horrified... Daredeviling while blind, are you nuts?? LOL
Ha, absolutely. And Mike would be telling him it'll be fine, Matt should go with him if he doesn't believe him. Matt's even more horrified by that than by the fact that Mike's blind. He demands he stays home and tries to mother hen him. Mike might have kind of adopted Stick as a father figure in a way that Matt never did. So while Jack was all about the studying and Matt went that route, Stick was about fighting and Mike went with him. They both might kind of half regret their choice in a 'what if' kind of way. The sky thing might be that, but in my head it was more about it being an intangible concept. Without vision, all the super senses in the world can't let him sense the sky, it's totally lost to him.
Oooh... I like your take on the sky. It's probably better than the circadian rhythm thing because with his 'world on fire', now that I think of it, I bet he knows if it's night or day.
Yeah, I kinda see Matty and Mikey as two possible alternate Matt Murdocks that happened to have shared a womb and a universe. They're two people with all the same potential, a shared childhood, but eventually have some drastically different circumstances. Also, they have a complicated relationship with each other that, well, I'm sure shapes them in different ways. And, they get to see what that road not traveled looks like, not just imagine it. I see the mother-henning totally happening. I'm also sure Matty still reads Thurgood Marshall and still hears the sirens and people in trouble... Though, Mike's been maybe scratching that itch for him? I bet eventually he does get out there, out of necessity - just not as often. Maybe they share 'The Man in the Mask/Daredevil' identity, eventually? (Though it's really more Mike's thing.) I bet Mike starts keeping a log so Matt can be kept up to date with what DD's been doing... I bet eventually if one gets injured and the other goes out it confuses other heroes they end up working with - in the begining they wonder if DD has some sort of healing factor... LOL Or sometimes he can read/drive a car, other times no way... LOL
Maybe for consistency, or even just because it's dark out anyway, Mike starts going out blindfolded under the mask/helmet…
Which would piss Matt off even more if he found out…
LOL But, what he doesn't know can't hurt him... Besides, I think he's partially relieved that Mike does most of the Daredeviling... That way he can continue to use his head and not his fists... But, yeah, he's totally afraid for his brother every night he's out there... Of course, Mike gets annoyed at Matt's worrying... After all, using his fists is all he's good for, right?
Aww, now Matt will feel all guilty and start trying to convince him to go back to school.
Of course, Mike doesn't think he has time at the moment to go back to school, so he deflects... Noting how Matty puts on the blind act in public, he asks if Matt does it so he can be a 'secret warrior' for Sticks war... That's a way to raise his hackles... Matt scowls and Mike laughs.
Mike has adopted more of a NY accent, like his dad, than Matt has, hasn't he? Maybe he hasn't followed his dad's wishes, but of the two of them, he's the most like his dad... :)
