Matt blinked slowly, unsure of how to answer that question, and carefully said, scars were before him, my ear with scissors, but can only tell my own story, and then frowned at Jamie, you don't know medicines can conflict?

"Had similar early training." He added softly. "I would have been reluctant to accept pills too, even from another pet. You might have heard about that."

Ivannya nodded, Danny Rand had made sure everyone knew about Matt being tricked into taking illegal drugs.

"Yes, of course. And I think Jamie was confused over the absolute of not allowed, it made it sound like your owner's command, not something medical."

(OOC: Ivannya will probably be called back to entertain Danny soon)

Well, not everything conflicts, Matt explained gently, but if I took wrong things, could have very bad effects, could need a hospital, and neurologist would be unhappy. So cannot take anything not on safe list. And no alcohol, he sighed sadly, and then startled at a knock on the door.

"Ah, I expect Master and Hendrick are leaving now, so I'll need to entertain Danny." She leaned forward to rub cheeks with Golubushka and Matt and to kiss Toffee before she went to open the door.

Matt felt sharply worried for her for a moment and pushed it away, and sipped more of the tea and waited for the others to take a cookie before him and told Jamie softly gently, I know I am not like pets like you, but I know the things like Toffee's past, and want to help him, support him. Don't have to be so worried about me.

"I tend to worry a lot." He explained with a shrug. "We never got to eat the pierogies I prepared, want me to cook them now and bring them through to share?" He offered, changing the topic, and worried that Golubushka had thrown up everything he'd eaten.

Matt blinked and then considered the idea, one hand rubbing at his stomach and he said slowly, yes, sounds delicious, but I might have to open a window--or, if smells are too strong, could I go into the hallway and open the door for a few minutes? Cold is good at times, he tried to explain, and craned his neck to hear Ivannya and other-Danny's conversation for a few minutes, but it sounded like she was charming him, discussing languages and fashion and something about the best...places? In New York?

"Of course. You're not stuck in the nest, it's just the nicest place to have a pet guest.

Danny knew a lot more about pet fashion than she'd expected and he had a tendency to talk about places in terms of how easy the buildings were to climb.

Matt leaned into Toffee as Jamie left and asked him and Treacle, what do you think of them, this house, so bustling and busy?

"They're good to me, I like them all, think I can come to love them too. Master Erik, even when he's aroused, he holds back, makes sure he's calm and doesn't pressure me or anything.

"And it's good to know that if I need someone then there's always someone there."

"Need more social interaction than we do." He added with a smile. "They all care a lot about Toffee and it shows."

Have you ever thought about helping with prosecuting, or helping other rescue-pets? Matt asked with bright curiosity. It can help to care for others. Even a plant or cat. Are good and make you grow too.

"I'm not ready for any of that." He shook his head nervously. "Not even ready to think about it."

"A pet, or maybe a container garden would be better." This wasn't something Golubushka or Toffee would know. "They only place the rescues with rehabilitation specialists or into single pet households. Because that way the hosts are less likely to get too attached to let them go when they're ready."

Matt kissed his cheek, asking softly, when you are, just consider all options. You are never too broken to never help anybody. And the best help comes from pets who understand. Those who have been alone in the dark too.

He listened curious to the information, asked Treacle, so which one are you, or both--?

"Single pet household." He smiled to hear Toffee giggle at the question. "Rehabilitation Specialist's a career for free people, not one Danny follows."

Oh? Why can't pets have that career? Matt asked, only half-teasing, and added, but do all pets have to go through organizations?

"Rules about ownership." Matt answered, but Toffee didn't pay much attention, frowning at Golubushka in confusion.

"Go through organisations for what?"

(OOC: Golubushka tends to pressure people to help other pets more than they're ready for or really capable of I've noticed, does he do it with his friends in his world, or just the ones he meets through the wizards?)

For helping other pets, Matt said delicately, I just don't know official processes. Not my kind of bureaucracy.

(OOC he is very passionate about helping pets and encouraging his friends to get involved. To be fair, he honestly has no idea if Toffee feels put upon by it.)

"You can't help when you'd be hurting yourself by doing that." Matt repeated something Danny had told him before firmly. At least they couldn't expect Toffee to hurt himself to help other pets.

(OOC: Yeah, Toffee saying that he wasn't ready to think about it obviously wasn't a firm enough no for Golubushka - but it's honestly the closest Toffee can get to a definite no if it isn't built into a question right now.)

Of course not, Matt said, puzzled by the direction, and switched tactics, pivoting to give Toffee a reason to talk about the happiest things, have they taken you out to nice places yet, pet-parks? Which ones are good around here? Your favorites?

"I'm only allowed to go out to pet parks with them twice a week, because before Master Erik put that restriction in place Ivannya was taking me out two or three times a week and so was Jamie, but not together. My physiotherapist suggested that as I get stronger he could increase the limit to three times perhaps. But right now I'm going to the private pet park he enrolled me in once a week and the public one once a week. Jamie takes me to different public pet parks, but my favourite's the one on ____th Avenue. The cafe there's set up with nooks where you can hide away and craft if you want to." And speaking of crafting...

"Wonder if I could get Jamie to fetch Hendrik's sweater down to work on instead of my lopapeysa. While he's out at work. I can take it back when you have to go."

Nooks sound good, hiding away and listening, Matt said warmly, filing away other signs Toffee was backsliding, had to be kept to rest enough, and quipped, Would go get it myself, but I don't think I'd spot it in time.

"And Master Erik wouldn't be happy with you going up the stairs alone either." He tried to tease back. "Instructor Marnie's working on helping me learn to say no again. Among other things."

She is very helpful, understands the truth beneath things, Matt agreed emphatically, and is good at teaching. Is going well or too terrifying impossible?

"I can usually manage an indirect no, but..." He trailed off, not wanting to offend.

"Doesn't help when can't recognise it." Treacle Matty put in, softly.

"Can't?" He couldn't hide his skepticism, he'd believe a free man couldn't, but another pet?

"Had to go back and take remedial classes on it." So it had to be true, or Matt wouldn't admit to it.

Matt raised an eyebrow in the way that made liars squirm in his office and said, Toffee, stop dancing around it, say what you mean, very very firmly.
