Barba hummed in approval. "This new soap smells good," he murmured as he lathered up Toffee's belly, avoiding going too too low, "But I want you to smell like me, be reminded of where you belong. Of what that collar means," and he tugged on it tightly for a second.

"Oh, I like the thought of that." He smiled up at his master, moving with the ug on his collar.

Barba scrubbed him thoroughly, and was intently gentle as he nudged Toffee to stand wider apart and wash all his legs. He looked at his pet's eyes, watching for dissociation, terror, or even resignation--anything that would rupture the relationship.

He obediently opened his legs, watching his master, with no doubt that he'd take good care of him.

Barba washed every inch of skin carefully, taking care to scrub but not scrape; he washed all of Toffee, including his feet, and the closeness, intimacy, the soft skin and big trusting eyes infused the air itself with desire so intense he could barely speak. But he kept himself from taking what he could so easily, and focused in on kissing and licking Toffee's sweet neck instead.

And he wrapped his arms around his master's shoulders, clinging close to him.

"You honor me with your trust," he murmured. "I treasure it in my heart. You are a part of my heart, my love," and he kissed Toffee, and gently handed him the soap, trying to be equally vulnerable and nobly trusting.

"Oh!" He smiled at Master Erik in surprise and pleasure. "Uh...should I do your hair as well?" That might be a bit difficult, but he put some sop in his hands as he waited for an answer.

"I can, if you want, or--here--" and he pulled the shower chair over and sat on it instead, smiling at Toffee and leaning his head back. "Does this work now?" he asked his pet, closing his eyes and trusting him. It was intoxicating.

"Yes, this works." He bent to kiss Master Erik before moving around behind him. "I didn't have many lessons on this, before." He offered the warning as he reached down to start working the soap into his master's hair, moving carefully and gently.

"Oh? What kind of lessons did you have?" Barba murmured, leaning into Toffee's gentle fingers just slightly. "Did they teach you your gracefulness?"

"Every pet gets lessons in deportment, yes. Uh...I had the usual lessons free children get, literacy and history and maths and all that, but I also learned how to cook and how to knit and sew..." He told his master what he remembered about his lessons as he washed his hair, and moved down to his shoulders.

Barba listened to Toffee's quiet voice over the patter of the shower, and wondered at his emotions as he spoke. "Do you miss the Academy?" he asked gently. "Are you sad, my darling?"

"I'm happy to be yours, but I feel like I'm not as good as I should be because of them." Because he'd lost time he should have been able to spend learning and gaining experience.

Barba paused to digest that before responding, thought about how it would feel to see himself as inadequate because of something well beyond his control or choice. "I'm sorry you think so little of yourself, and certainly, after some time we might have you try one class at a time again, to learn more," he murmured, "But I don't see you that way. I don't compare you to every possible iteration of you that could exist--I want you precisely as you are, and I've been training with you, and I see you as strong," he said, trying to make his words reach Toffee completely. "You're a strong, good pet. And you're my precious, irreplaceable darling. I wish you saw yourself just like that."

"I think it's going to take a while for me to see myself like that. But...I'm already doing better than I was at first."

"You are, my love," Barba murmured, reaching to squeeze his hand. "And I don't want you to ever feel like I compare you to the others, either. Sometimes I do note the differences, but it's never that they're good and you're bad, or anything along those lines. You all have your strengths and weaknesses, and are irreplaceable to me. Worth more than all the money in the world."

"Thank you Master Erik." He kissed the hand squeezing his, then went back to cleaning his master.

Barba stayed still for the cleaning, letting Toffee do it in the order he pleased, and not commenting openly on how interesting it was that he scrubbed harder in some places than others, and how meticulous he was totally.

He worked a bit more quickly when he reached his master's genitals, trying not to arouse him during the washing process, and at the end he settled down on his knees to wash his feet properly.

Barba couldn't help but desire him so very, very deeply at that moment, want Toffee with a burning hunger as bright as the sun, but instead he just inhaled deep and slow and let him kneel and scrub his feet, gazing at his soft wet hair. The air just about crackled with sparks.

He settled back on his heels when he was finished, looking up at his master, and swallowing. But...his master had been aroused around him before and not done anything, so he smiled as he spoke.

"I...think I might need some help standing."

Barba offered a hand easily to his Toffee, and used the other behind him to catch Toffee if he started to slip. The warring trust and fear on his face awed Barba; how could anyone, especially a delicate creature like a pet, be so hurt for so long, senselessly, helplessly, and come out of it willing to trust him, kneel to him? The strength of pets was beyond anything he could imagine, and it was why he chose them against anyone, why he valued his so.

"Thank you." He stood carefully with his master's support, and accepted his master's help in drying off.

And getting changed into pleasantly warm, long-sleeved pajamas firmly convinced his body to calm down. Barba kissed Toffee deeply as they headed to brush their teeth. "You are so sweet to trust me," he said warmly. "You add a deep kindness to this family."
