"Fetching, tickle fights, uh, Matt really likes posing sometimes," Foggy said. "He also likes hide and seek--he's way too good at it."

Danny: Clearing Up

"Oh, yes they really are." And it was sort of heartbreaking. "I sometimes need to use chi-sense to find him."

Golubushka's Foggy: Clearing Up

"He also really enjoys ropes, like this," Foggy said. "Or just in general. Sometimes he wants to curl up and knit and listen to books, just while tied up. Matt also really likes memory or trivia games when he's up to talking, or ones with yes-no questions if he's not. Or if he's not up for words at all, he's also very good at finding hidden things. And always playing with Piroshki. She's incredibly fun."

He paused, watching them squeal and wrestle. It appeared Treacle was more ticklish on his feet than Matt was, and Matt was taking ruthless advantage.

"At times, when he's like this, it's because he's sick, and he would prefer soup and crackers and things like that."

Danny: Clearing Up

"Yeah, my Matt loves playing with Onigiri too. When he was with us during that bad brain day Jessica was really upset to see the two of them playing with her though. Does it bother your Jessica to see Golbushka playing with Piroshki?2

Golubushka's Foggy: Clearing Up

"I think for her, seeing vulnerability and--and things that remind her of, I suppose innocence might be the word, those can be very upsetting for her," Foggy said carefully. "I think sometimes submissiveness reminds her of terrible times in her life. It can look coerced to her."

Danny: Clearing Up

"Yeah. Golubushka called her a feral cat, and that's not exactly a bad description. She prefers it when people stand up to her."

"She can be around Matt when he's not particularly verbal--if he isn't confused and doesn't try to, uh, defer to her," Foggy said. "That always is too much, which is fine. But they have a really strong friendship."

"Yeah, strong friendships are always good." He agreed with a smile.

And with a yell of triumph Matt sat up, showing off that he'd gotten both toys away from Treacle, and then he laughed and pulled Treacle into a warm hug and they came back over, panting and flushed from the tight wrestling and clearly needing water. Foggy made sure Matt drank from the ice-cold bottle that appeared next to him, and then a huge bowl of fresh strawberries appeared on the table, instantly drawing both the pets' attention.

Danny: Clearing Up

"Hungry Matty?" He smiled at his Matt, petting him as he helped him drink some water - with added electrolytes from the scent. And Matt nodded eagerly, so he fed him one strawberry first.

Golubushka: Clearing Up

Matt whined a little, sitting up more and nudging at Foggy, pawing at the basket, and it wasn't until Foggy poked his lips with a fat strawberry that he calmed down a little, eating one and then another and another, until Foggy was steadily feeding him strawberry after strawberry and he was purring at them, eyes sliding shut and moaning softly at the sweetness, the little crunchy seeds. There were several kinds of strawberries, some of the rare ones he'd had before on very special occasions, and he was eating so happily he didn't notice he was close to choking.

Treacle: Clearing Up

He whined a bit because Golubushka was being fed faster, but Danny just petted him and kept feeding him at the same pace.

"I don't ant to risk choking you."

Golubushka: Clearing Up

Foggy frowned and stopped Matt from the next piece, and Matt whined loudly in response, even as Foggy said baby, you can't choke just because you really want to eat some, and Matt made soft whimpers of distress, and Foggy pet him for a few minutes gently and fed him slower, and when Matt made a little wail of anxiety and despair Foggy seemed to understand, gently kissing his forehead and telling him the food won't vanish if you don't eat it all right away, there will always be more food, I won't ever take away your food or starve you, I promise, there will always be more food, and Matt shivered with memories of fear and constant hunger and dizziness and Foggy drew him closer, saying softly, you're my good boy and I will never, ever underfeed you, I promise I won't, you'll always be allowed to ask for more, I will always feed you enough, I promise, you will never run out of food, and it was good but it didn't quite fix the problem.

He frowned a bit at Golubushka's distress, not sure what he needed. But Matt leaned into Golubushka, pressing his shoulder against the other pet's.

Golubushka's Foggy: Clearing Up

Matt was clearly and suddenly spiraling into anxiety over something he couldn't quite communicate to Foggy, and he frowned. "Matt," he said gently. "I won't take food away from you, or punish you by not letting you eat it anymore, if you choke. There aren't any punishments for eating too fast, or for eating too much. It's okay, baby, I know food can be pretty scary for you, but you're safe here and I will always keep you safe here." And with Treacle leaning against him, Matt slowly started nodding, shivering still, and Foggy leaned down and gently drew him up onto the couch until he was lying in Foggy's lap, his head on his legs, and Foggy pet him and fed him a few more strawberries, murmuring that there was always plenty of food, they could always afford food.

Danny: Clearing Up

And he helped his Matt up to rest in his lap, petting him and praising him for helping Golubushka while he fed him.

Foggy pet and kissed and reassured Matt gently, and as he did he seemed to calm down slowly, smiling up at him and sitting up more, and pausing, passing Treacle a big strawberry, and leaning against Foggy, whining a little until Foggy fed him a salty, delicious chunk of mozzarella cheese instead.

Matt made a happy noise when Golubushka passed him the strawberry, then turned his head away from Danny when he offered another.

"Do you want something different?" Matt nodded a big smile on his face.

"Hmmm, how about this then?" And he offered Matt a small pork gyoza dipped in soy sauce.

Foggy kept his tone carefully calm, and next chose a dumpling for Matt from the same plate that Danny was feeding Treacle from. "Can I ask you, Danny, if you know other things that are good at helping when your Matt is having problems related to food?"

"The best thing is to feed him of course, and promising never to take food away for anything. But making sure to feed him at his own pace and pay attention to his cues helps as well."

Foggy nodded. "Though it can be difficult when Matt's pace is 'so fast you're going to choke'," he said wryly, ignoring as Matt bit him for that. "What? You do choke, like, once a month from eating too fast. And then you get all bitey when food isn't at lightning speed, baby."

Danny: Clearing Up

"Yeah, that's difficult." He chuckled, stroking his Matt's hair. "sometimes it helps to distract him a bit, make sure he's listening to music or a podcast while he's eating."

"Do you think that other distractions can help too?" Foggy asked delicately. "Do you have success with conversation or TV?" And he winced as Matt bit him again. "Hey, stop being an alligator," he said, irritated.

"Conversation when he's verbal, yes. TV not so much." Danny chuckled a bit as Matt nuzzled at his fingers, making a soft whine for more.

Matt whined a little at Foggy, nuzzling for forgiveness, and Foggy pet him and pressed kisses to his face and told him softly it's okay, Matt, I still love you, don't worry, and then when Matt squirmed a little Foggy caught on, and frowned before picking up something that smelled very different and interesting, and he sniffed it twice before experimentally biting at it.
