Mod post
This post is for people who want to play more general roleplays, I'm leaving this unstructured, to play please comment with who you play (even if you think it should be obvious from your icon/username) and what sort of interaction you're looking for.
If someone wants more structure/to take over handling general roleplays please ask and I'll be happy to add at least one mod for this.

Date: 2016-05-04 07:22 pm (UTC)How long does a degree take at at American college? Here it's usually three years, but mine was four, and in Scotland it's four, so I know there's variation between places... Also how long does it take to complete law school? Google says three years, so assuming it, lets say 6-7 years total. Would they be interning for a year? So eight years ago, that would be 2007, but if Matt was 18 in 2007, that would make him 26 when the series started...
It's possible, it's younger than I thought he was, but not by much.
You're right though, probably bets not to mention the year if possible, someone will only say it's wrong. We were trying to figure this out to sort out what kind of phones they would have, though. I've googled what phones were popular in 2007, and come up with this
http://www.phonesreview.co.uk/2007/05/13/phones-review-ultimate-top-10-mobiles-2007/
It was around the time that Smartphones were creeping into the market, it was the year the iPhone came out (someone I worked with got one and I was so amazed). I think I got one the following year, upgrading from my Nokia. I think most people didn't have them yet though
Most of them still have actual buttons for the numbers, and were still using the letters on the number buttons to spell out text messages. Being students, I don't know whether either of them would have been able to afford something top of the range, probably not. And I'm sure real buttons rather than an on-screen keyboard would have been easier for Matt, probably still would be. In fact, he probably has more trouble with phones now than he used to back then. I mean, you can talk to them (within reason) now, but you used to be able to set it up speed dial so if you held a certain number down it would call the person you had assigned to that key. Plus, just dialing the phone if you knew the number but didn't have it in your phone book or had borrowed someone else's phone would be easier with keys you can feel. The no. 5 used to have a raised bump on it to help people with low/no vision know what key they were pressing. Texting probably wasn't a thing he did often because through he'd be able to write them easily enough if he knew which letters were on which keys, he wouldn't be able to read the responses. Now, it'll be the other way around, because he'll have to rely on the voice recognition to write them without a tactile keyboard, but the phone will be able to read them out to him.
I've just realized how long I've been rambling about this, sorry! Point is, Foggy might have had a smart phone if he could afford it, though it would probably be a pretty different design from the one he has now. I bet Matt has an older one with a more classic small screen and number keys underneath design.
Uh... that was totally long. And I still think better not to mention the actual design of the phone. But keys you can feel, definitely. :)

I found this from the RNIB, there's one there that says it was specifically designed for blind people, and it has info on the accessibility settings on other ones. But yeah I imagine having to rely on voice commands would be annoying. There are features on the iPhone like you can set it to read the text on the screen if you swipe down with two fingers, and it comes with VoiceOver, which is the screen reader software in the Mac, but a different version. The only issue is you'd have to get a sighted person to actually turn on the accessibility settings in the first place. Though and subsequent upgrades would just copy your settings across from the previous phone along with your contacts etc.
Apparently some Android phones (which I'm sure someone said Matt has) support refreshable Braille displays, which is cool, but he doesn't do that in the show that I've noticed, and apparently Android aren't the best.
Of course, that's now. Back in 2007 things were much less advanced.
With Matt's temper, I bet he's broken a few phones in the past by introducing them to the wall!

Date: 2016-05-06 12:54 am (UTC)I went to my local health food store today, after work, wearing my Pym Technologies shirt and the clerk noticed & asked me if I was going to see Civil War when it comes out... I'm like, it's already out? ... Nope. I blame you. :p Guess we don't get it until tomorrow...

Oh, I imported my LJ to dreamwidth. While I was at it, I added you. We'll see if I actually update them, but I figured, why not? :)

I'm going to try to write another bit of the story now, because I'm out tomorrow and at some work course on Monday. If I don't manage it now, I'll try and get it done in between all the stuff.

Date: 2016-05-06 03:33 pm (UTC)Maybe I'm wrong, this is pure guesswork.
Weird about release dates. When I was a kid we'd often not get new movies for months after the US release. Now they tend to be around the same time, maybe a day or two earlier or later sometimes, but a whole week earlier seems strange. It explains the lack of spoilers though. I didn't see it till the Tuesday after it came out on the Friday. I was sure I'd be dodging spoilers the whole time, I've only come across a few. It came out even earlier in some other parts of Europe. I don't get why they don't release things at the same time everywhere.
Re: Where Matt has a real identical twin named Mike who is sighted and is Daredevil
Date: 2016-05-06 06:15 pm (UTC)Yeah, I don't get why they can't do simultaneous releases. My SO figures there's some movie the US distributer didn't want to compete with on opening night or something. (I haven't had time, anyway, so it's no loss to me. lol.) Maybe I'll have time this weekend. Depends on how my final group project is looking.
Re: Where Matt has a real identical twin named Mike who is sighted and is Daredevil
Date: 2016-05-06 06:36 pm (UTC)Could be that, but I don't think there are any other movies out that would be competition for Captain America. A google search suggests they release it elsewhere first to build up hype in the US, and that announcing how much it had made elsewhere does that. This makes no sense to me, but I know very little about marketing! Also something about assessing the reaction so they can make changes if necessary? But this can't be that, no way they could do it that fast.
Maybe they were just waiting for you to be less busy :-)

Date: 2016-05-04 10:09 pm (UTC)Love the research. :) The phone choices sound good. (Yeah, I didn't upgrade until way, way, late. & here I'm supposed to be a tech person now, lol. But, I remember from my E-Commerce class all the talk about Web 2.0 and such starting around then. Fits.) Speaking of school... I'm off there for now. Last night of class before the final. Yay. :)
