Joy went to go and get them all some food, and Raspberry looked at him. "It's really not your fault," she told him. "And I will get stronger and heal. And they do give me plenty of painkillers. Lots. Even if I say it only hurts a little or that I got used to it. I'm not in any danger."

He nodded, "I'm glad they are taking care of you. Drugs and painkillers are good when you're somewhere safe," he agreed. They were good other times too, but he knew what things were better to keep to himself.

He sighed, remembering how much blood there had been that day she was stabbed. "I was so worried about you when they wouldn't let me visit. I'm sorry I haven't been around more often. It's not that difficult to sneak in."

"I don't blame you for wanting your freedom," she said, looking around. Far away, a small dog obediently trotted with its human, and some toddlers were in strollers or walking, one shrieking with delight at the leaves. "Sometimes you just need to exist in the world, be around the business of life," she said quietly. "I--in the Texas clinic sometimes we had hikes. Those were good for that."

"Were you allowed to go alone?" He asked.

"No, it was pretty dangerous wilderness, but the guide was calm and quiet, and most of us didn't talk, at least in the group I was put in. We walked next to coyotes and I hiked in the moonlight sometimes," she said, and winced as she felt a sudden sharp spike of pain. "I just, it's, I hate feeling helpless now," she said. "I feel weak."

"For now, but you won't always. Injuries heal," he assured her. "Sometimes it feels like forever when you're sick or hurt, but after you start to forget how bad it was at all."

She hummed quietly, nodding, and then stiffened at the flash of a camera at the edge of the park.

Ward frowned, he'd heard something but didn't know what it was, it had affected Raspberry though, he heard her heart beat faster, her breath hold for a moment in tension. "What happened?" he asked, listening carefully.

"Someone took a picture of the park--or a selfie, I don't know which," she said quietly. "They could just be taking normal photos, but... I don't know." Her heart hammered painfully in her chest.

He moved closer to her, tentatively moving his arm around her back, hovering protectively, but not touching. "I won't let anyone hurt you again." He said confidently. " know what I did wrong last time, it won't happen again."

Raspberry jumped a little at his touch and then nodded and was about to thank him when a person holding the cell phone camera from before came closer...

THere it was, he could hear the person now that they'd stepped forward... He stood up and focused on their heartbeat, it quickened as they recognized they'd been spotted. Where did the clinic security go?

He clenched his fists, stepping forward to confront the threat. He wasn't letting anyone get close to Raspberry again.

Raspberry's heart was so fast she almost couldn't hear anything, she felt like she was dying, her skin breaking out in sweat and her breaths terribly fast. She watched the person come closer and then suddenly, without warning, the security from the clinic was there, wearing a sweatshirt and blocking the person from view, who was saying something about public photography and privacy and the security was telling them to step back, step back, get away from her...

He couldn't help Raspberry on a personal level, he knew he couldn't offer her the comfort she needed.

He yelled for Nurse Joy to return.

Still listening, he could hear the person security had confronted wasn't the only threat. A distraction?

He turned, focusing again, this was what he was trained for. Knowing he was spotted now, the man turned an started to run. Ward ran after him.

Joy set the bag down and sprinted, running to her patients, one who looked paler and terrified and Ward as running after a man and then tackling him to the ground, and she saw the glint of metal and it gave her another burst of adrenaline, and she changed course to kick the knife out of the man's hand just as he tried to raise it, and one of the security was there too and now yelling and saying move over, I'll make a citizen's arrest, and she stepped back one, looking over Ward quickly, and noting that the strange person who'd started to approach Raspberry was running now too.

Ward heard it, taking Joy's notice as an instruction to sprint after him, it took a minute, but his superior speed and agility played to his favour and he tackled the man to the cement, rolling and wrestling to get him under his control.

Raspberry watched in horror, almost hyperventilating, but to her enormous relief once Ward got the man good and punched several times he stood up and the security guard then arrested the other man himself, and she shook violently, the adrenaline starting to wear off and she felt cold and shaky and horrible.

"Ward?" she called. "Please--I--please come here, I don't feel so good," and she desperately wanted confirmation that he was okay, he hadn't gotten hurt too, her mind conjuring hidden wounds, stabs, knives they might have had--

Once he knew the the security guard got the guy, he back off quickly, not wanting to be arrested himself.

He'd gotten hit badly near his eye when he tackled him, and it hurt, but it wasn't that bad. Not broken at least but his face felt numb and weird. Worst was his sunglasses were broken and he'd have to risk stealing a new pair.

Any other injuries he wasn't aware of yet.

"Are you hurt?" he asked urgently coming back to her but keeping a distance, afraid that Joy woudl case him away.

"Please come here, please, I need to see you," she said, feeling both humiliated and utterly terrified, needing to see for herself. "What's that--your face--" and her breath went faster, so much she felt like she couldn't talk, choking on pure panic, and she heard Joy tell Ward firmly to walk closer and hold her hand for a minute, and then Joy tell her calmly to try and breathe, okay, she knew this was awful and frightening but she and Ward and Joy were all safe now, they were okay, and she needed to breathe, but Raspberry felt like she absolutely could not, her heart so loud it was starting to drown out everything else.

He was clearly upsetting her and pulled his hand away. "Sorry, I should go," he said, retreating.

"Stay where you are," Joy snapped, a complete order in her voice, and Ward froze. "Thank you. She's having a panic attack, she doesn't need someone else vanishing. Ward, put a hand on her back, rub it gently between her shoulderblades. Raspberry, I want you to try and take deep breaths, and I want you to try and smell the leaves like you did earlier, how they smell, and think about how the trees sound." She shuddered, but her breaths stopped hyperventilating quite so bad, and some color began to return to her face slowly.

"Good, thank you. Ward, squeeze her hand slowly, okay? And Raspberry, match your breath to the squeezes, deep, slow, there we go," she coaxed gently.

He did what Nurse Joy ordered, feeling nervous and antsy the entire time. Joy was wrong, He was making things worse, and his skin crawled from the forced touching.

She felt hideously embarrassed, childish and stupid, but it helped, and she took deeper and deeper breaths and then squeezed Ward's hand back, and when she could talk, she said, slowly and stuttering, "Thank, thank you, Ward, I, I know you don't like, you don't touch. Thank you. I'm, my chest hurts. You don't have to touch me anymore, at, any at all, but can you--sit with me? So I can, I'll know you're not dead either?"

It wasn't that he didnt' like touching her... okay so he didn't, but not more than he didn't like touching anyone.

he snuggly tucked his arms in around his chest and scooted a safe distance away. "Better now? I won't- I wont go if you want me to stay, but I don't want my staying to hurt you."

And he felt itcy, wishing he had something on him to take the edge off.

"You're not, you aren't hurting me, you haven't hurt me," she said, taking deeper breaths, trying to feel less dizzy, "I just--I thought--I saw the knife, I thought you got stabbed, you didn't, did you?" she asked, and stared at the bruise on his face, "And what is--how did you get that?"
