Golubushka, his Foggy: Clearing Up

Matt and Foggy sat snuggled up to each other in bed, having decided to retire early to read and, in Matt's case, knit as well, his hands deftly working on a plain hat for himself even as he listened to a book on working with defendants who had committed violence in self-defense and Foggy read through a novel that was about death in orchards, and then without any warning they were suddenly dropped into a living room, cavernous, with two very upset people inside of it, shouting at each other. Foggy recognized them immediately, while Matt blinked and then did, as Treacle and Danny Rand, and Foggy winced as he heard the edge of terror in Treacle's voice and realized what might be happening.

"Matty, please..." He tried to keep the pleading note from his voice. He didn't even know what had upset Matt so much, and he had to keep a tight rein on his chi as well.

Foggy cleared his throat, hoping to maybe interrupt the cycle. "Hi," he said. "Uh, we're--I can see that you're in the middle of something, but, um, you don't--not to be rude, but--"

Sound like you're fighting, Matt interrupted him gently. We help? Had fights, still okay now.

"And no offense, uh, Treacle--" and then he winced, and Matt placed a hand on his and murmured, it's okay, know you love me now, and he continued. "Treacle, you look like you're going to pass out, do you want a hug?" he offered a little desperately. Treacle both looked like Matt, the way the others did but more, he wore the same kinds of clothes and had the same look that he did, and he was crying-screaming the same way Matt did when he was almost out of his mind with emotion, anger and terror and pure flashback-induced confusion all mingled together.

Danny: Golubushka, his Foggy: Clearing Up

"I'm tying not to. I don't..." He trailed off as Matty moved over to the other Foggy. "Thank you." He hated that he couldn't hug Matt right now, not while he was upset enough for his chi to be close to the surface.

(OOC: Danny wasn't yelling at all)

Can hear, Matt said gently, and walked over to the Danny, and placed a hand on his arm, come, we make tea, he said decisively, hoping to be steered firmly away from the still-sobbing Treacle.

Foggy hugged Treacle warm and safe and tight, the way Matt absolutely loved it, and gently rubbed his back and through his hair even as he sobbed his heart out, and patted his back gently. "There," he said softly, "There, it's okay, let it out. Try and take a deep breath," he said when Treacle was almost turning blue with breathlessness. "Try and just take one breath, okay? If you faint it's going to be very awkward," and Treacle shuddered against him.

(OOC Matt had assumed Danny was yelling prior to their arrival, but I guess he'll find out :))

"I don't know what I did wrong." He told Golubushka as the tea began steeping.

He took a deep shuddering breath as the other Foggy held him.

Not the same before? Matt asked, tilting his head as he sniffed out the sugar jar and the milk cup in the fridge, fingers careful and exploratory, can explain, from beginning? What said?

"There, see, you're doing great," Foggy said encouragingly. "Yeah, I know it's awful to be that angry, it's okay. Just keep breathing, and then let's do something that will make you feel better--maybe you want to wear something more comfortable? Or, where's your cat?"

"I asked if he wanted to stay on the list for taking in pets for the first stage of rehabilitation. I know we're not ready to have another strange pet around us yet, and it was far harder for him because he had to do most of the work, but then..."

And Onigiri came leaping down from her cat tree, pressing up against him.

Was confused, or did not remember things? Matt asked, thinking it through, or was emotionally there? and then another possibility occurred to him, Did you say it would be hard, or ask if it would be too hard? he asked, wincing a little.

"Here, she loves you," Foggy coaxed, picking her up--wow, she was a big cat, and writhing at that--and depositing her neatly into Treacle's arms. "she loves you and she wants you to be happy, here, take her," he said, and smiled at her loud chirps and trills. "She loves you, let her help you."

"Maybe. I said that I know we need time just for us even if he's willing to do it again, and no-one wold blame him if I said to take us off the list. Uh, part of what he was shouting was about not being good enough, and I was trying to tell him that I only want him as my pet."

He hugged Onigiri, letting her scent mark against his cheeks.

Matt felt himself soften with sympathy, and he said quietly, is a big fear, not being enough. They always want someone less broken. Prettier or smarter. Or better.

And Foggy watched as she squirmed her way all over Treacle, adoring him and making him visibly go from near hysterics to calm deep breaths, and he smiled a little as Treacle tilted his head up for him. "Hey, do you want to go and, um, maybe wash your face and change into something comfortable?" Foggy coaxed. "And then perhaps you can tell me what's up--and we can get Danny to go and take a walk if you don't want him close enough to hear with his mystically enhanced hearing."

"There isn't anyone better, not for me." He answered that at once.

He stiffened a bit, remembering how this Foggy treated Danny.

"Can't, you'll use it to hurt him."

Matt hummed thoughtfully, when bought and sold, is an objective price on you. Judged like good or bad pens, not people. Always comparing. No subjectivity. People always trade in for better model.

"We're not going to hurt anyone," Foggy said reassuringly. "Matt's friends with the Danny Rand from our Feral's universe--sorry that's a convoluted sentence--but seriously, it will be fine. I'm not going to hurt you either, or him. I just want to help, because you look like you were really upset. May I help you?" he asked, wincing at the deeply sad and fiercely angry expression on Treacle's face, how he was protectively clutching at the cat.

"If being evaluated would help I can arrange that. But there isn't a better model, not for me."

Matt smiled at him, can hear that. But jealousy not facts. Not rational. Needs to be kissed away sometimes. Or fucked away, he said softly, arranging some of the cookies Danny had gotten out, what happened after said could stop helping other pets?

"I won't be mean," Foggy promised, "I will be careful and only assume all good faith, okay? I will listen to you and not make any assumptions, how about that?"

"Uh...that was when he started getting upset, and shouting about not being good enough."

"Mmm-hmm." He hummed a bit skeptically, but he went to wash his face, and change into some of Honey's clothes, silk dhoti pants and the tunic Toffee had worked together with him to make.

Other things happened recently? Matt asked shrewdly. Have stopped kissing, Colleen been around too much? Toffee got close to you? Other people think you are buying a new pet?

While he was getting freshened up, Foggy was inspected by the cat. "Hello," he greeted her, and offered his fist. She was loud and large, but also seemed to like him, even jumping onto his shoulders to lick his hair.

"We've been kissing plenty. And Colleen isn't around alone, always with other Defenders, or I go to help teach at her dojo. Uh...didn't think Toffee was getting really close to me. And no one's said anything about me getting a new pet to me." But...maybe they had around Matt.

And when he came back out Onigiri had climbed the other Foggy and started grooming him.

Matt thought carefully about how to say next what he meant, and said softly, could someone be telling him that you are planning to get second? Or that you are lonely because he can't give you all you need? He asked, using more careful words, and explained softly, sometimes hearing about how other people need more to make them happy, or people saying a pet is not enough, can be bad. Once had a very bad week, lots of pain, uselessness. I thought Foggy didn't deserve to have to deal with my brokenness. Has similar happened here?

"Hey," Foggy said softly. "Do you feel up to telling me what's going on now?"

"Maybe people could be saying that, but I'm not lonely. Not ever fair to expect one person to be all anyone needs." Danny frowned. "He has been busy recently."

"Was a bad week, so happy to get to have Danny to myself again, and picked up more of what I was doing, but maybe pushed too hard."

Busy how? With charity work? Matt asked curiously, Or with being sad and sick and lonely?

Foggy nodded carefully. "Can I ask how your week was bad? Did something happen or someone say something, or was it just a lot of strings of bad luck?" He noted the way Treacle was curling in on himself on the couch he'd sat down on, biting his mouth and cuddling the cat to his chest.

"With the charity work, yes. He had to spend a lot of time with Toffee while he was with us, so he couldn't do everything he'd been doing, and so this week he went to meetings and did stuff everyday." He didn't want to go into too much detail.

"Some comments about how I'd probably 'flake out' again, like they thought Toffee didn't need or deserve to be taken care of. Had to cut back on my other charity work when we had him, so trying to make up for it."

How did they feel about him not being able to do normal work, and only help Toffee? Matt asked seriously, people angry? Sometimes others resent me at work if I can't come often.

"So then you felt bad emotionally," Foggy said carefully. "Did Danny know people were saying you were flaky and uncommitted?"

"The people running the groups knew why he was cutting back, and it's not like he didn't follow through on his commitments, he just didn't make as many as he usually did. You think that people might be judging him by the standards of the employees, instead of like the other volunteers?"

"Noo...no one said it to my face. And I did do everything I said I'd do, even with Toffee there." He added, feeling a bit insulted.

People frequently do, Matt said simply, especially if they think he cares more about one Toffee than about everyone else. And volunteers get taken for granted lots. And taking less time because cannot do everything is looked down on. Even things like seizures can be called 'flaky' or 'not committed enough'.

"Of course," Foggy said quickly. "You're not the kind of person who would drop things unless you absolutely had to. But you could hear them saying it behind your back?"
